EDIBLE FLOWERS

If you’ve been to the San Clemente Farmers Market recently, you’ve probably seen them. Maybe you even stopped to take a closer look and inquire further.

They’re bright, seasonal and not something you can find at most grocery stores.

I’m referring to squash blossoms.

Find squash blossoms sold at the weekly San Clemente Farmers Market.

Squash blossoms are the edible flowers of squash plants—typically from zucchini or other summer squash varieties. These delicate, golden-yellow or orange blossoms are prized in many cuisines for their subtle squash flavor and tender texture.

And we’re lucky enough to live in a warm climate where they thrive. They are also in season right now, and not for much longer (their peak season is May - September), making them a sought after at the summer farmers markets.

There are so many ways you can prepare them - such as roasting, adding as garnishes to pastas, incorporating into frittatas or salads, or stuffing and frying them. I opted for the latter, following this easy recipe, and they were seriously delicious.

Give them a try next time you’re at the San Clemente Farmers Market.
