This weeks lineup:

  • Construction is officially underway for one of many new hotels to come to Dana Point.

  • From costume contests to art crawls to spooky movie nights, we’ve got your full rundown of the Halloween happenings around town.

  • If you believe in ghosts, we’ve got a spooky tale about “The Lady in White” at the Mission in SJC.

BREAKING GROUND

The empty lot at the intersection of Green Lantern & PCH is officially under construction.

The Wave Hotel at The Strand will be a 57 room hotel with an outdoor pool and restaurant, and appears to cater to surfers for access to nearby Strands Beach. There will also be a visitor center, two-level subterranean parking (174 spaces), including parking for nearby trails.

The 57 room Wave Hotel at The Strand will be located at Green Lantern & PCH.

The start of construction was confirmed by an Instagram post of the developer, Genova Construction.

The second hotel that could also be underway shortly is the 100 Key Resort, at the location of the old Cannon’s restaurant on Green Lantern and Santa Clara Ave. According to the developer website, there will be 100 guest rooms total, and will include a restaurant, outdoor terrace overlooking the harbor and luxury spa.

This comes at a time during a massive boom in hotel development across Dana Point, as two additional hotels are also being built at Dana Point Harbor as part of the revitalization project. Both are scheduled to be ready by the 2028 LA Olympics.

We’ll share more details as we get them on these and other developments coming soon to Dana Point and surrounding areas.

GHOST STORIES

One of the most famous ghost stories takes place right here in SJC.

In 1812, a girl named Magdalena carried a candle in a repentance procession when a massive earthquake struck and killed her.

Some say if you’re near the ruins on a moonlit night you might spot a faint candle-glow or a face in the window. And just across the tracks, on Los Rios Street, there’s reportedly a Lady in White under the pepper trees.

If you’re up for mini-adventure this weekend, maybe take a twilight stroll and see if you feel the past brushing by…
