Hey South Coast Swell crew! Happy Wednesday.

While temps are starting to drop across the country, we’re still basking in the warm, sunny weather here in South OC — and definitely not complaining about it.

Sending a warm welcome to the many new subscribers who’ve signed up over the past week — thrilled to have ya!

This weeks lineup:

  • The 2028 LA Olympics will shine a spotlight on OC; what will the new DP Harbor look like by then?

  • The 41st Maritime Festival, plus jazz in the park, pet adoption event, sound baths and more — this weeks lineup.

  • Espresso martinis, nachos and margs — checkout the revamped HH menu from this local favorite.

  • We asked, you answered: here’s South Coast Swell subscribers’ fav local donut shop (and their September menu)

TAKE YOUR MARK

The race is on.

When the 2028 Olympics are hosted in LA (with several events happening right here in Orange County), the group behind the Dana Point Harbor Revitalization project is aiming to have the new shops, hotels, restaurants and boat docks fully operational by June 2028, according to the OC Business Journal .

The opening of the $45 million parking garage in July marked completion of phase two for the harbor revamp project. The entire $610 million renovation will bring two new hotels to the harbor, as well as more boat slips, state of the art docks, restaurants, shopping and a new boardwalk that will stretch all the way from Doheny Beach to Baby Beach.

With Olympic events set to take place around OC (surfing at Trestles Beach in San Clemente, volleyball in Anaheim), it’s expected that Dana Point could host thousands of visitors for the 2028 games.

What’s next? Phase 3 of Commercial Core, which includes development of waterfront buildings, is slated to begin in late 2025.

We’ll be closely following updates on the harbor project, as well as Olympic events around OC. Stay tuned!

HAPPY HOUR, ANYONE?

I’m all about a good happy hour, which is why I have to tell you about one of my favorites.

Western-themed Capo Leisure House at the River Street Marketplace in SJC is one of the best spots in town for happy hour. With their new menu, I’m particularly excited about their creative cocktails like The City Slicker (gin, elderflower, Naranja, lemon) and La Burro (mezcal, repo tequila, lime, mint & habanero), both $10. Also their tacos (two for $10), and nachos for $5.

Stop in Monday-Friday from 2pm-5pm for one of the tastiest happy hours around.

GLAZE CRAZE

We asked, and you answered.

South Coast Swell subscribers voted for none other than JD Flannel as the #1 rated donut shop in all of Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente.

I recently stopped in and discovered some new favorites (shout out Boysenberry & Old Fashioned), and got a peak at their September menu.

JD Flannel’s September menu features classics, seasonal flavors and plenty of GF & vegan options.

It’s always a good day for a donut, and we’re lucky to have an amazing shop right here in South OC.

Thanks for reading & catch ya out there
